Description. Madder is supposed to promote the menstrual and urinary discharges, and has been recommended for such purposes by various practitioners. Madder contains rubian, rubiadin, ruberythric acid, purpurin, tannin, sugar and especially alizarin. The root is aperient, astringent, cholagogue, diuretic and emmenagogue. It is taken internally in the treatment of kidney and bladder stones. The root is seldom used in herbal medicine but is considered to be effective for amenorrhoea, dropsy and jaundice.
Use. Madder is used for urolithiasis, it helps relieve spasms and make stonesРІР‚в„ў moving easier. DonРІР‚в„ўt use madder if you suffer from renal insufficiency, stomach ulcer or glomerulonephritis.
